aint Lucia has emerged as the top-performing country in this year’s Caribbean Primary Exit Assessment (CPEA), outpacing regional counterparts with a national mean score of 77.24 per cent, well above the regional average of 71.23 per cent.

This marks a significant achievement for the island, now in only its fourth year of participation in the regional exam.

The country also claimed the top two honours in the region, with Saint Lucian students Madiba Charles and Madison Paul earning the highest overall scores among male and female candidates, respectively, across all participating countries.

Many of our students have made commendable progress this year, especially in social studies and science. This is something worth celebrating,” said Chief Education Officer Beverly Dieudonne. “Mathematics, although we realise improvement in performance at CPEA this year, continues to be an area of concern at all levels, especially at the minimum standards examinations.”

Education Minister Shawn Edward highlighted the score range and distribution.

Composite scores ranged from 23.6 per cent to 99.6 per cent. A total of 1,089 students, just over 55 per cent, scored at or above the national mean, while 871 students scored below,” he stated.

Minister Edward also underscored the ministry’s ongoing efforts to support learners with special needs. This year, 120 students received accommodations such as large print materials, readers, scribes, and individualised support.

A total of 1,960 Saint Lucian students sat the exam this year, comprising 967 boys and 993 girls.
