The Prime Minister confirmed that police officers have already received salary increases and are now set to benefit from additional allowances, which will be paid out at the end of this month.
“We’ve done something that has never been done before. The collective agreement has been signed, or they have agreed to sign it, and the police will get the allowances from the month of June, which is unheard of as allowances are concerned,” he said.
Pierre emphasised that the early implementation of allowances demonstrates his administration’s commitment to supporting law enforcement officers.
“We think that the police deserve that extra initiative. Hopefully, this month, all things being equal, the police should have their allowances, because in spite of the protestations, they received their salary increase already,” he added.
The Police Welfare Association was one of just a few staff associations within the public service that, at first, vehemently refused the government team’s proposals for salary increases.
