Saint Lucian Students Record Strongest CXC Results in Five Years

T

he Ministry of Education has announced that St. Lucian students delivered their best performance in recent years at the 2025 Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) assessments, with a national pass rate surpassing 77 percent.

Acting Minister of Education, Senator Hon. Pauline Antoine-Prospere, described the results as encouraging, particularly in English and Social Studies, but cautioned that mathematics continues to lag behind.

Overall, 77 percent of candidates achieved passing grades, with English and Social Studies showing strong results,” Antoine-Prospere said.

Mathematics, she noted, requires additional support from government and other stakeholders to ensure better results.

English A saw an 85 percent pass rate compared to 80 percent last year. However, mathematics remains an area of concern: 42 percent versus 38 percent in 2024. While this relative strength is encouraging, we must not be satisfied until more of our students are excelling.”

Acting Registrar of Examinations, Patterson Abraham, confirmed that the country attained an overall pass rate of 78.05 percent, the highest recorded in the past five years.

“This is commendable performance for Saint Lucia, showing that over the years we have been steadily increasing. This year has been our highest achievement for the past five years. I believe this is a point for celebration.”

The Ministry noted that while the upward trend reflects resilience and hard work from both students and educators, the focus now shifts to strengthening areas of weakness, particularly in mathematics, to ensure that more students can excel in future examinations.
