Speaking on Chill & Chat with Maundy Lewis, Dr. Harracksingh reflected on her journey from medicine to politics.
“I was a medical doctor. I did my studies overseas, and then I came back to Saint Lucia. I felt it was very important to come back to the place that had given me my starting life and my home place,” she said.
After working at St. Jude Hospital and later the Lilly Harracksingh Wellness Center (renamed in honour of her mother), she also contributed to wellness centers across Micoud North.
Her transition from medicine to politics, she explains, stems from a desire to enact broader social change.
“Sometimes you have to be in a certain position to be able to enact even bigger changes, to affect policies… This is the reason why I made the transition from medicine to the political arena, to help a lot more people in every aspect of their lives.”
Dr. Harracksingh’s platform emphasizes economic empowerment, infrastructure development, and sustainable tourism. She highlighted the Youth Economy Agency, pledging to secure greater access for local youth, and stressed the need for improvements to feeder roads to enhance connectivity.
On the environmental and tourism front, she envisions developing Micoud South’s natural attractions, positioning the area as a must-visit destination for eco-tourism.
“I think we can make Micoud South the bell of the town… a place where everybody would want to come,” she said, underscoring her commitment not only to infrastructure and economic development but also to improving the quality of life for residents.
With Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre and the broader SLP team, Dr. Harracksingh aims to continue Moving Forward with the People of Saint Lucia, bringing both practical solutions and visionary projects to Micoud South.
