Saint Lucia Fire Service Urges Caution as Road Collisions Persist

Tuesday, Nov 11

T

he Saint Lucia Fire Service is appealing to all road users to exercise caution and adhere to regulated speed limits following a series of road collisions across the island.

Firefighters responded to a recent accident in the north of the island, where all individuals involved were safely extricated, and thankfully, no fatalities were reported.

According to Leading Firefighter 550 Samuel, the team focused on cleaning up the aftermath of the collision to prevent further incidents.

“The safety of road users is our priority,” the Samuel said. “After extricating everyone, we cleaned up the oil and fuel left on the road. This involved applying absorbent material, scrubbing, washing, and finally spreading sand to reduce slipperiness and prevent additional accidents.”

The Fire Service expressed concern over drivers’ disregard for road safety, stressing the need for vigilance and attention while behind the wheel. “We are not sure why some drivers fail to appreciate the dangers, but each incident is a reminder that careful driving can save lives,” Samuel added.

Authorities are urging motorists to remain patient, observe speed limits, and drive defensively to reduce the risk of collisions.
