Saint Lucia Set to Commission Fully Upgraded St. Jude Hospital with Major Service Expansions

he Government of Saint Lucia has announced the upcoming commissioning of the fully upgraded St. Jude Hospital, marking a transformative leap in healthcare delivery across the island. The official handover is scheduled for Sunday, November 16, 2025, following confirmation by Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre that all construction works have been completed.

The revamped facility promises unprecedented expansions across critical healthcare services, aimed at improving patient care, reducing congestion, and ensuring timely access to specialized treatments. Key highlights include:

* Bed Capacity: Increased across all wards to enhance patient flow and reduce overcrowding.

* Emergency Department: Expanded unit with more treatment bays, a minor injuries area, and improved isolation facilities.

* Diagnostics: Addition of CT scan capabilities, Health Information Systems (HIS), an expanded laboratory with molecular testing, and a fully equipped blood bank.

* Surgical Services: Increase from 2 to 3 theatres, higher surgical throughput, and enhanced minimally invasive procedures.

* Specialty Clinics: New ENT, oncology, and cardiology clinics to meet growing demand for specialized care.

* Maternal & Child Health: Enlarged maternity unit and advanced neonatal care, including High Dependency Unit (HDU) and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

* Renal Services: Expanded haemodialysis capacity to serve more patients.

* Rehabilitation: Larger physiotherapy unit with an expanded range of rehabilitative programs.

* Support Services: Upgraded pharmacy, modernized Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD), improved catering, laundry, and facility maintenance services.

Prime Minister Pierre hailed the completion of St. Jude Hospital as a milestone in national healthcare development, underscoring the government’s commitment to modern, accessible, and patient-centered care.

“The commissioning of this state-of-the-art facility signals a new era for health services in Saint Lucia,” the Prime Minister noted. “It reflects our pledge to equip our medical professionals with the tools and infrastructure needed to deliver world-class care to every Saint Lucian.”

The full commissioning of St. Jude Hospital is expected to significantly strengthen healthcare capacity on the island, enhancing both routine and emergency care while broadening access to specialized medical services for patients nationwide.
