According to an official statement, the Criminal Investigation Department received a report at approximately 4:40 p.m. alerting officers to a body located in a bushy area adjacent to the highway. Responding personnel confirmed the presence of a deceased female, and a medical practitioner later pronounced her dead at around 6 p.m. Due to the advanced state of decomposition, investigators were unable to establish a definitive identification at the scene.
The RSLPF acknowledged heightened public concern surrounding the incident and emphasized its commitment to transparency and accuracy as the investigation progresses.
Police confirmed that the investigation is examining a potential link to the disappearance of Merissa Auguste, who was reported missing on Thursday, September 10th. Auguste was last seen on Wednesday, September 9th, at around 5 p.m. Her vehicle a pink Honda Fit bearing registration number PU1689 and displaying the words “Top Riri” on the windshield was found locked and unoccupied along the Ti Colon/Castries road.
While preliminary findings suggest the deceased may be Auguste, the RSLPF stressed that formal identification cannot be made until scientific verification is complete. A postmortem examination is scheduled for Monday, September 14th, and DNA analysis will be used to confirm the identity.
The police further disclosed that one individual was arrested on Saturday, September 12th, in connection with the investigation. The person remains in custody as inquiries continue.
The RSLPF stated that it is pursuing the matter with “the highest level of professional urgency, transparency, and sensitivity,” and indicated that international experts may be engaged if required. The force extended its condolences to the Auguste family and others awaiting news of missing loved ones, acknowledging the emotional strain of the situation.
Investigators are appealing to members of the public who traveled along the Millennium Highway or observed unusual activity in the area prior to Friday afternoon to come forward. They are also seeking information from anyone who witnessed suspicious behavior near Auguste vehicle while it was parked along the Ti Colon/Castries road.
