Vianney Lubrin of La Croix Maingot, Castries, has been charged with murder following an investigation by the Major Crimes Unit. Lubrin subsequently appeared before the First District Court and was remanded in custody until October 6, 2026.

Auguste had been reported missing on September 10. Her partially decomposed body was discovered along the Millennium Highway in Castries on September 11. A post-mortem examination conducted three days later determined that she died from strangulation.

The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force had earlier confirmed that two individuals were in custody assisting investigators as police sought to establish the circumstances surrounding her death.

The case emerged amid heightened public concern over reports of missing persons and alleged kidnappings circulating on social media.

Police subsequently disclosed that 11 missing-person reports had been received between August 1 and September 14. Nine of those cases were resolved with the safe return of the individuals, while one person remained missing. Auguste accounted for the other case.

The RSLPF also urged Saint Lucians not to treat unverified social-media posts, voice notes and messages as confirmed information unless verified by police.

While a murder charge has now been laid in Auguste's case, the police investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death continues.
