SLP Townhall in Gros Islet Reaffirms Commitment to People-Centred Development

A

wave of energy and optimism swept through the Gros Islet Human Resource Centre on Monday evening as hundreds of constituents and Labour Party supporters gathered for a townhall meeting hosted by the Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP).

The event featured passionate addresses by Gros Islet MP and Minister for Youth Development and Sports, Hon. Kenson Casimir, and Prime Minister Hon. Philip J. Pierre, both of whom underscored the government’s ongoing commitment to “putting people first.”

In his rousing presentation, Hon. Kenson Casimir celebrated the progress made in Gros Islet under the current administration and emphasized the government’s investments in youth, sports, and community infrastructure.

“This is a government that listens, delivers, and builds with the people,” Casimir declared. “Whether it’s the rehabilitation of playing fields, the investment in community centres, or the expansion of youth opportunities, Gros Islet is rising — not by chance, but by choice. A Labour choice.”

Casimir also highlighted projects such as the ongoing upgrades to the Gros Islet Highway, the development of housing solutions for residents, and increased financial support for local athletes and youth-led initiatives. He reaffirmed his personal commitment to being an accessible and responsive representative.

Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre received a thunderous welcome as he took the stage, reiterating his administration’s people-centred policies — from healthcare improvements to cost-of-living interventions.

“We have never lost sight of who we are working for,” Pierre said. “Since 2021, we have reduced VAT on food items, improved public health facilities, increased support for the vulnerable, and continued to clean up the mess left behind by the former UWP government.”

Pierre also addressed citizen security, a key concern for many residents, and assured the public of ongoing investments in law enforcement and community safety programs.

“We are not here to boast — we are here to report, to engage, and to serve. But let me be clear: the Saint Lucia Labour Party keeps its promises. We are rebuilding Saint Lucia from the ground up, and we are doing it with integrity, compassion, and courage.”

The townhall ended with an open forum where residents voiced their concerns and received direct responses from ministers, solidifying the SLP’s grassroots approach to governance.

As the evening closed, the tone was clear: the Saint Lucia Labour Party remains focused on sustainable development, empowering.
