Stephen Fevrier: “I stand with Allen Chastanet”

Friday, Jun 13

"T

he Labour Party uses very  Marxist, Communist approaches. They want to decapitate the leader [of the UWP],” fired the United Workers’ Party’s candidate for Castries North, Stephen Fevrier.

Fevrier, who appeared on the UWP’s Thursday morning radio programme, says he will remain committed to political leader Allen Chastanet, despite what he describes as attacks from the ruling Saint Lucia Labour Party.

“[The SLP is] trying to decapitate the leader. But I stand with Allen Chastanet because  I have seen him work. I have seen his commitment,” he said.

Fevrier aims to unseat sitting MP and Minister for Infrastructure, Stephenson King in the battle for Castries North. As he intensifies his campaign, he urges his political colleagues to rally behind Chastanet.

Look, UWP, stand with our leader. We need to. Because that's what they're going for. That's their prize…And I'm no spring chicken and I'm not easily fooled.  So that is why I stand with Allen Chastanet,” he encouraged.

In Fevrier’s own words, Chastanet is most suited for the job of Prime Minister and political leader of the UWP. Commenting on concerns of race, which have come to define local politics for almost a decade, he had this to say:

Because he's a white man or they say he's a white man, he doesn't care? Who cares? If Allen Chastanet is the best person for the job, I don't care if he's white, pink, green. Once his heart is in the right place, and I believe his heart is in the right place, I will support him.”
