Amid speculation that the highly trained German Shepherd may have been poisoned, Assistant Commissioner of Police Luke DeFreitas provided an update at a recent press briefing.
“One of the major areas that we need to clarify is the cause of death of Tyson. A necropsy has been performed, and we do have initial reports from the veterinary pathologist who conducted the procedure. However, he is waiting on the results of toxicology to give us a more informed outcome,” explained Assistant Commissioner of Police, Luke Defreitas.
Samples from Tyson’s body were sent to a forensic laboratory for testing, and the RSLPF is currently awaiting those results.
“As soon as these samples are diagnosed, then we can tell you exactly what the cause of death was in relation to Tyson,” DeFreitas added.
Beyond the investigation, the RSLPF is also preparing to honour the fallen canine with a formal send-off. Assistant Commissioner Dr. Mashama Sealy announced that an official funeral is being planned.
Said ACP Dr Sealy: “A team will be put together as soon as we are assured that the veterinarian and the lab have everything they need to ensure the toxicology testing is done. The Commissioner has decided that Officer Tyson will receive an official funeral.”
She noted that the Force delayed public disclosure of Tyson’s death to allow internal stakeholders time to process the emotional toll of the loss.
“Out of respect, the Force ensured that all key stakeholders were briefed and had the opportunity to process the event before this announcement was shared with the public.”
The Force has not yet confirmed a timeline for the final toxicology results or the planned funeral, but authorities insist that Tyson's service and sacrifice will not go unacknowledged.
