T

he Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) has intensified its clampdown on traffickers attempting to exploit the island’s legal points of entry, following a series of recent seizures of narcotics, firearms, and ammunition.

According to Inspector Shervon Mathieu of the Gang, Narcotics, and Firearm Unit, two suspicious packages were intercepted at the General Post Office in Castries.

In the first, disguised as confectionery items, investigators discovered compressed cannabis resin weighing 620 grams. In a second case, a package declared as food products was found to contain 3.44 kilograms of cocaine with an estimated street value of EC $86,000,” Mathieu confirmed.

In a separate operation at Shed 7, Castries Harbour, police uncovered a consignment of prohibited items concealed within everyday household goods. The seizure included two firearms and 255 rounds of assorted ammunition, which were hidden inside flower packets, beverage containers, and other packaging.

Inspector Mathieu said the seizures underscore the persistent efforts by criminal networks to infiltrate the island through postal, courier, and shipping channels, disguising contraband as legitimate goods.

The RSLPF has reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the country’s borders and urged the public to remain vigilant by reporting any suspicious activities linked to trafficking operations.
