ocial advocate and mother of the late Botham Jean, Alison Jean, has welcomed the guilty verdict delivered in the murder trial of 40-year-old Saint Lucian national, Jahfari Joseph, whose disappearance and death shocked communities both in the United States and in Saint Lucia.

Joseph was reported missing on December 29, 2024. His body was later discovered in January 2025 along Route 26 in the town of Franklin, Clinton County, New York. Following investigations, 61-year-old Timothy Timmons of Plattsburgh, New York, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder.

Last month, a Clinton County jury returned a guilty verdict, setting the stage for Timmons’ sentencing, which is expected to take place in January 2025.

Speaking on the outcome, Alison Jean expressed a sense of relief, noting that the ruling represents an important affirmation that the justice system can work for victims and their families.

“The verdict in Jahfari Joseph’s case comes with a high sense of relief because it shows that the justice system is working…I am happy to see there has been a conviction for this gruesome act.”

Jean, who became a prominent voice for justice and police accountability after her son Botham Jean was shot and killed in his Dallas apartment in 2018, shared that she is personally familiar with Joseph’s family and understands the devastation they have endured.

“I know the family. I know the parents and the extended relatives,” she continued. “I want to again extend my condolences to them on the loss of their son. I believe justice was swift in this case, and I share in the relief they are now experiencing.”

Jean added that she is hopeful the sentencing phase delivers a strong message of accountability.

“I trust that the sentencing early next year will result in this criminal receiving a very heavy sentence for that act of murder,” she said.

The case continues to resonate both within the Saint Lucian diaspora and among advocates who continue to call for justice, transparency, and accountability in matters involving violent crime.
