Twenty-five-year-old Deshawn Rene of Barre Denis, Castries, was handed over to French authorities on Thursday, November 6, 2025, following a coordinated transfer involving the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) and the Bordelais Correctional Facility.
Rene has been extradited to Martinique to answer to charges including murder, kidnapping, armed robbery, and fraud. His transfer follows months of cooperation between judicial and security officials in both territories.
This latest extradition marks the fifth such handover to Martinique for the year, reflecting what authorities describe as strengthened efforts to dismantle criminal networks operating across the Eastern Caribbean. The two countries recently held the 9th Franco-Saint Lucia Security Meeting in Saint Lucia with Prime Minister and National Security Minister, Hon. Philip J. Pierre, chairing the 2-day session.
In a statement, the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force said the move underscores the importance of strong regional cooperation to ensure accountability for serious criminal activity.
The Force emphasized that effective collaboration ensures that individuals accused of violent or organized crimes cannot simply evade prosecution by moving between islands.
Law enforcement agencies in both countries continue to work jointly on investigations relating to smuggling, violent crime, and financial offenses, with officials noting that regional crime-fighting strategies remain essential as criminal networks become increasingly interconnected.
