The seizure underscores ongoing efforts to combat criminal activity and strengthen border control measures.
Inspector Shervon Mathieu, Head of the Gang, Narcotics and Firearms Unit, provided details on the operation.
“During the course of the operation, four consignments were intercepted resulting in the recovery of nine firearms, 1,623 rounds of ammunition, 8.36 kilograms of cannabis resin with an estimated trade value of $200,000, and 9.8 kilograms of compressed marijuana with an estimated value of $183,000,” he said.
Inspector Mathieu explained the broader context for the operation, noting a pattern of criminal activity.
“Recent interdictions and active investigations have demonstrated that criminal elements are using commercial consignments to introduce prohibited items into the island. These items have been directly linked to increased firearm-related offences, armed robberies, and drug trafficking.”
He added that the operation was vital to maintaining public safety. “The operation was therefore necessary to disrupt this mode of entry, prevent further circulation of illegal weapons and drugs, and strengthen border control efforts at the port.”
The police continue to urge vigilance and cooperation from the public as authorities work to curb the influx of illegal items and reduce associated criminal activities.
