This year’s General Debate takes place under the theme “Restoring trust, managing transformation: A United Nations that delivers for all.” It brings world leaders together to address global challenges and strengthen cooperation on peace, security and sustainable development. 

Prime Minister Pierre will participate as both Saint Lucia’s Head of Government and Chairman of CARICOM. He also holds lead responsibility within CARICOM for Sustainable Development, including Climate Change, Environment, Disaster Management and Water. In these capacities, he will make representations on behalf of member states, placing Caribbean interests before the international community.

His participation in UN High-Level Week provides an important opportunity to connect the concerns of Caribbean citizens with the international decisions that affect their lives. For Saint Lucia and its regional neighbours, climate resilience, water security and protection against disasters are closely tied to safeguarding homes, sustaining livelihoods and securing development gains.

With sea-level rise among the issues receiving dedicated attention during High-Level Week, the gathering provides a timely platform to advance the concerns of small island developing states and reinforce the need for practical, adequately financed international action. 

For Prime Minister Pierre, Friday’s address will bring national leadership and regional responsibility together: representing Saint Lucia while carrying the collective concerns of CARICOM member states into the global debate.

His address is expected between 2:30 and 3:00 p.m. Saint Lucia time, subject to the progress of General Assembly proceedings.
