ousing Minister Hon. Richard Frederick has confirmed that preparations are in place for the demolition of the CDC Block X building in Castries, scheduled for Sunday and Monday, October 1st and 2nd.

He expressed the hope that by Tuesday, October 3rd, the building would no longer stand.

We are hoping that come Tuesday morning, the third of October this year Block X will no longer be a structure that is standing,” Frederick stated. All occupants have been safely relocated. Minister Frederick assured that everything necessary within the bounds of the law and reasonableness would be done to assist those affected.

Many former tenants have been placed in improved accommodations, and some have received support in building their own homes. Frederick says this is the best course of action as the structure poses many risks.

“There were several incidents, no one knows what caused it, but there have been several chunks of concrete just falling from the building,” he lamented. The Housing Minister assures the public that the government is doing everything possible to handle the situation. “I am sure all of you heard all the brouhaha – all the naysayers were coming with in terms of how [the] government is going to deal with the situation,” Frederick told the press.

Movements to demolish the structure commenced when a piece of falling debris almost fell on a child bystander.
