n Wednesday, October 18 2023, Tropical Storm Tammy formed in the Atlantic Ocean, triggering preparatory measures in the Lesser Antilles.

Conditions are expected to worsen over the next 48 hours.

Saint Lucia’s National Emergency Management Advisory Council met on Thursday October 19 2023 to prepare for the worst possible outcome. TS Tammy’s path is predicted as “between Saint Lucia and Antigua”. This level of uncertainty has NEMAC, as well as other regional agencies, on guard. Acting Prime Minister, Hon. Shawn Edward, addressed the nation after the conclusion of a preemptive NEMAC meeting.

We had made the assessment with the Met Office that we are not in the direct path of [TS Tammy]. We will continue to monitor [as] weather prediction is a science that is inexact. The best we can do is to ensure that we are adequately prepared for any eventuality,” Edward told the nation at about 3:30 pm on Thursday.

Prime Minister Pierre has cut short his official attendance at the Canada-CARICOM summit in Ottawa, and began his journey homeward on Thursday. Citizens are advised to listen to weather reports from official channels.
