The Prime Minister, who has previously voiced his disapproval of widespread anger, spoke out once more in support of unity and nation-building. He calls on Saint Lucians to band together in harmony.
“Anger is a destructive force that seeks to divide and promote fear. Hatred and anger threaten the stability of our democracy and peace-loving society. Differences need not lead to vitriolic disputes. Peace must always prevail,” Pierre said in his video.
In direct contrast is the Opposition Leader, Allen Chastanet, who has on prior occasions asked his base to “get angry”. This anger, Chastanet says, is the appropriate response to the Pierre Administration’s leadership of the country. Expressions of anger and violence during UWP conferences justified the police’s response to the October 14 protest march on the SJH construction site. Police officers in uniform prevented the protestors from gaining access to the site, much to their disapproval. One particular protestor, a former ambassador, has come under public scrutiny for comments made towards the officers. The PWA has since demanded an apology from the organisation.
The Prime Minister continued in his video by encouraging each Saint Lucian to contribute to the development of the country. “A country where every man and woman, every boy and girl, will love Saint Lucia. Saint Lucia belongs to them,” Pierre had said.
The Prime Minister says he would like to see a more equitable country by the end of his tenure.
