Jounen Kweyol Traffic Management Plan - No Parking in Certain Areas, Designated Parking Zones Available

Thursday, Oct 26

T

he Royal Saint Lucia Police Force has released its traffic management plan for Jounen Kweyol Celebrations in the communities of Canaries, the Mabouya Valley and Soufriere.

Motorists are advised to familiarise themselves with the parking arrangements ahead of Sunday, October 29, 2023, to avoid confusion. The RSLPF also assures that it has measures in place to ensure the smooth running of activities.

Canaries: “We have alternative parking arrangements for [residents] inside the village of Canaries. Only persons with passes, or residing along that road, will be permitted to park inside of the Canaries Village. So if you have a relative that you will visit over the weekend, unfortunately, you must conform to the plans that we have in place. We have a large area for parking which is the Moon River area. As soon as you go over the Canaries main bridge, you take a left and drive in. There’s sufficient parking for all. If that area is exhausted, we have another plan that we will put in place that will park persons along the road network,” Inspector Calixtus Charlemagne detailed. According to him, there will be no parking and no riding arrangements, so patrons will have to walk to the venue.

Mabouya Valley: “Vehicles will be allowed to travel from La Ressource up to Aux Lyons and will make the round and come out through Grande Riviere - that will be one-way traffic. There will be proper signs in place to show the direction and flow of traffic and to guide people as to where to pass. Vehicles will be permitted to park on one side of the road at La Pelle. Parking for vehicular traffic coming from the north will be on the Grande Riviere playing field, the agriculture division grounds, opposite the Valton Building Supplies, next to the Richfond Police Station. Parking for vehicles coming from the south will be on the agriculture complex grounds at La Caye, Dennery,” Inspector Bernard explained.

Soufriere: “There will be two primary main entry points to the mini stadium. Firstly, those coming from the [North], could enter the area through the Palmiste/Fond Bernier Highway. That entry route will be made a one-way traffic route. The secondary route is the new development, La Perle - at the entrance of Massy Supermarket, La Perle. That route will also be one-way traffic and vehicles will be allowed to enter through that route, follow the new development main road, which will take you to the northern end of the mini stadium,” Inspector Rene explained.

Motorists are encouraged to cooperate with the traffic officers.
