T

he Vieux Fort Comprehensive Secondary School took a moment of pause and reflection to celebrate sixty years of its existence.

The school held an ecumenical service at the Lady of Our Assumption in Vieux Fort, attended by past students and dignitaries. Parliamentary Representative for Vieux Fort South and past student, Dr. Kenny Anthony, encouraged students to continue persevering despite the odds. Dr. Anthony reminded them that their actions were not only for their benefit but for the benefit of the entire country.

It is that spirit that the school has always inculcated - defy the odds, no matter what the odds may be. You speak the language of excellence; we understand what excellence means. At our school, we are taught that excellence means you understand the inner secrets of the subject that you learn. It is only when you grasp the inner secrets that you can be on your path to excellence,” Dr. Anthony said in his moving address to the students.

Vieux Fort North Representative, Hon. Moses Jn. Baptiste was also present. He underscored the importance of the school in his development. “I’m very proud of the Vieux Fort Comprehensive Secondary School. I attended the school and it has been the happiest part of my life. All in all, this school has contributed so much to the Saint Lucian community, to the Caribbean community and to the world community,” an emotional Baptiste said.

The school has impacted thousands of students over the years, with its variety of subjects ranging from typical mathematics to electrical engineering.
