H

on. Dickon Mitchell, Prime Minister of Grenada is set to grace the SLP stage at the Fond Assau Primary School on Sunday, 12th November, 2023 for the party’s annual Conference of Delegates.

SLP General Secretary, Leo Clarke, says the party is continuing its decades-long tradition of rallying supporters from across the island to inspire confidence in their governance of the country. However, he adds, this year’s conference will be different than previous years.

Whereas before, the primary focus was the main speech and the guest speaker, this year we are going to change it and have a more concert production,” Clake explains. He says this strategy is to avoid what he calls “easy boredom”.

He continues: “We want to avoid what is easy boredom that people develop during political speeches, [so we] are going to mix it [up]. We are engaging a number of local artists, who will be performing inspirational songs and other acts.”

Hon. Dickon Mitchell, who unseated the once-considered unbeatable Keith Mitchell, will be the SLP’s guest speaker. The 45-year-old prime minister is currently the youngest-serving PM in the region, assuming the office at the age of 44, and led his party, the National Democratic Congress to a 9-6 victory in the 2022 elections. The SLP General Secretary says the party is extremely grateful for his participation in the conference. In 2022, Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit, 5-term Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica and Political Leader of the Dominica Labour Party was the guest speaker at the Annual Conference of Delegates.

The closed session of the Conference of Delegates is scheduled for November 24, 2023, where representatives from all 17 constituencies will meet to discuss the party’s agenda.
