The primary focus of this meeting was on new investment and trade, particularly in key sectors such as infrastructure, hospitality, energy, climate change, tourism, and environmental sustainability. OPM Saint Lucia said it expected relations between Saint Lucia and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to continue strengthening.
“Under the stewardship of Prime Minister Pierre, diplomatic relations between the Government of Saint Lucia and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have elevated - yielding significant inflows of financing support for capital projects and technical cooperation to advance the development of productive sectors, key to the development of Saint Lucia's economy,” the release read.
In August this year, the Saudi Fund for Development, a body of the Saudi Government, loaned Saint Lucia over CXD $200 million for the completion of St. Jude Hospital and the renovation of the George Odlum Stadium.
Earlier this year, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, pledged the government’s commitment to cooperate with Caribbean countries to achieve mutual goals.
“Saudi Arabia has been keen to extend the ties of friendship and cooperation to the Caribbean nations. Reflecting our expanding relationship with the region, the Association of Caribbean States plays an important role in enhancing regional cooperation and advancing collective action on issues we share concerns such as trade, climate change, sustainable development, and others. Our countries share the belief of securing peace, security, and stability in order to refocus our efforts toward national development and mutual prosperity,” he said at a summit in Guatemala in May.
He reaffirmed the Kingdom's commitment to work with its international partners toward achieving sustainable development goals by 2030. He called on the need to step up efforts to enhance global food and energy security amid the current crisis and supply chain issues.
