Funding Approved for Patience Community Water Project

Monday, Nov 27

P

arliament met on November 25 to approve the Patience (community in Micoud) water project funding.

The lack of water has been a longstanding issue for communities in  Micoud for decades. With the assistance of the Caribbean Development Fund and the Water and Sewerage Company, the water scarcity issue will be resolved in areas like St, Marie, Patience, Lumbard, La Haut, Mon Repos, Wen Development, Mamiku, Praslin, La Pointe, and Malgretoute. The government borrowed US$ 1.2 million for the total completion of the project.

We hope that the people of Patience will enjoy a new water supply. There have been several complaints about [the lack of water] and the member for Micoud North (Hon. Jeremiah Norbert) keeps on asking for assistance,” Prime Minister Pierre said in his address to parliament. The Prime Minister gives the residents of the Micoud District the assurance his administration will continue to support them, despite their voting history. “I want to tell the people of Micoud North that the government is an all-inclusive government. We have made available to both Parliamentarians, Micoud North and Micoud South, CDP Funds; we’ve made available to them education allowances, et cetera,” he explained.

Micoud North MP, Hon. Jeremiah Norbert expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister for the water project.

I always accede to the requests of my constituents, and this has been a longstanding concern for them. The Prime Minister has seen it fit - and I want the record to show my gratitude to the Prime Minister for undertaking this project. This project is really going to help solve that water problem,” he said.

The approved resolution aims to tackle turbidity and water scarcity issues within the Patience Water System. The project strives to enhance water quality, ensuring a reliable supply for the 1,729 customer accounts dependent on this essential service. Infrastructure such as a rubble-walled intake, a downstream pumping station, a raw water pumping main, a water treatment plant, and the installation of a water storage tank will all be part of this project.
