Works on Gros Islet Waterfront to Begin Soon

n a significant development, preparations are underway for the rejuvenation of the Gros Islet Waterfront, promising both economic advantages for the community and a more visually appealing environment.

The project's groundbreaking ceremony took place on November 30, marking the initiation of efforts to transform the Gros Islet Waterfront into a vibrant hub.

The Ministry of Tourism, Investment, Creative Industries, Culture, and Information provided updates on the progress of the OECS Regional Tourism Competitiveness Project (ORTCP) concerning the contract award for the Gros Islet Waterfront upgrade. This ambitious endeavor encompasses the construction of an entertainment park equipped with vending spaces, event venues, and recreational facilities for children.

Funded by the World Bank Group, the OECS Regional Tourism Competitiveness Project is now entering its sixth year of implementation. Among the various initiatives under this project, the Gros Islet Waterfront upgrade stands out as a pivotal undertaking, showcasing the effective execution of five civil works and software development projects.

Kenson Casimir, the Parliamentary Representative for Gros Islet, expressed gratitude for the Ministry of Tourism's role in advancing this venture. He acknowledged the contribution of a local resident known as 'Simple,' who played a crucial role in initiating activities that paved the way for the waterfront's transformation into a leisure destination.

Tourism Minister Dr. Ernest Hilaire, alongside other department officials, attended the sod-turning ceremony, demonstrating their enthusiasm for the project's success and its positive impact on both residents and the community at large. The Gros Islet community eagerly anticipates the realization of this transformative project, poised to bring about not only aesthetic enhancements but also substantial economic benefits.
