A

s the Prime Minister Honourable Philip J Pierre announces the security of over XCD $200 million for the completion of the St. Jude Hospital, residents of Vieux Fort feel comforted with the recent development in the district. According to Vieux Fort residents, these developments satisfy their long-standing demands.

In the Prime Minister’s 2023/2024 Budget Address, the Prime Minister promised the construction of the Vieux Fort Southern Police Divisional Headquarters, as well as the construction of administrative buildings for the people in the south. These policies, according to residents, will ease the burden of crime and doing business in the south. In most instances, people from the south would have to travel to Castries to handle their affairs, like renewing their I.D cards. The Prime Minister also announced that the Government will acquire land to resettle some Vieux Fort residents. These measures will ensure squatters are able to legally occupy land.

One issue highlighted, however, is the closure of the First District Court in Vieux Fort. A tentative date for reopening has not yet been announced.
