A training coach by profession, he said the inspiration for the idea came from another friend of his who’s running the entire length of Africa.
“I'm a sports scientist back home, so I work with a lot of athletes. And we had an athlete who's currently running the length of Africa, and he inspired me from going top to the bottom of the island.”
In total, the 80-kilometre walk took Boriel 10 hours to complete, and he did it all in one go.
After launching the campaign in the UK, donations came pouring in.
“And [we] just got friends and family and teachers and lecturers and everyone to donate, which has been amazing. So, yeah, we're really happy with the goal.”
He says the Gros-Islet-based charity was pleased with the support they received.
“It was amazing to meet all the kids and all the volunteers, which was, yeah, just really surreal to see just such happy people who have difficulties and have all these challenges and just be so content and happy.”
