The years-old event has come to define the fishing village and provide economic activity to residents.
Facing difficulties in the years leading up to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Fish Fry stopped altogether once the pandemic stalled other economic activities in Saint Lucia.
Anse La Raye/Canaries MP, Hon. Wayne Girard was delighted to announce the return of the Fry on Friday, February 23rd, 2024.
“We have a point to prove that we are very serious about our business in Anse La Raye. And despite all of the sorts of references to us, I think we are demonstrating that we are very serious about our agenda going forward. So on Friday the 23rd, we'll be relaunching the Fish Fry,” he explained.
The MP says a surgical look has been taken at the operations of the event. He says vendors have received customer service training and other mechanisms have been put in place to ensure the longevity of the Fish Fry.
“There were some challenges with the way it was operated previously. And we wanted to make the point that this time around we do it correctly. So we spent time training the vendors in various aspects. We also got them to appreciate that for this activity to survive, we need to be mindful as to how we treat our customers, whether it is foreigners or locals,” he said.
He says that the culture of residents will be on display, adding to the appeal of Anse La Raye’s activity.
“We also want to add a bit of culture to that. As you know, Gros Islet Street Party also happens on a Friday night. So we need to find ways to differentiate ourselves. So we are also in the process of renovating a building which will be used as a theater. So when you come to Anse La Raye on a Friday, you could take in a bit of a show and then wander off to get your food afterward in the village. So it's really a holistic approach in terms of what we're trying to achieve at this point.”
The MP invites all citizens to partake in the Fish Fry on February 23rd.
