Cabinet Reshuffle Underway? Poyotte No Longer Responsible for Police Administration

eturning to office officially on Monday, April 15th, Home Affairs Minister Dr Virginia Albert-Poyotte assured the public she is up to the task.

Amid medical concerns, the Minister disclosed that she will no longer be the steward of police administration, and that this Department will form part of another ministry altogether.

The move, she says, will lessen the workload on her part as she continues recovering from her heart attack.

As you know there will be a new ministry of National Security - that is public knowledge. That's a heavy piece that's coming out because I was responsible for the Administration of the Police so that will be taken off from my portfolio and it will be on the National Security so that will lighten the workload in that direction,” Poyotte said ahead of the sitting of Parliament.

Despite the change, Poyotte says she is ready to resume her work at the Ministry. She says she is currently preparing for the Appropriation Bill and Policy Debate toward the end of April.

I feel great, I feel strong and [I’m] repositioning myself for what is to come. There are quite a few things that I have to catch up with in terms of what has transpired during my absence. There are quite a few policy decisions that will be taken and I will articulate the direction that my Ministry will bring,” she said.

Prime Minister Pierre, however, says he is keeping information regarding a possible cabinet reshuffle “in [his] back pocket.”

Minister Poyotte just returned to work yesterday. Minister Poyotte is a hardworking minister. She had a health scare; she's back at work today, we haven't even spoken yet,” was all the Prime Minister would say on the matter.
