Recently, tourism officials partnered with one of the tech capitals of the world - and Saint Lucia’s longtime best friend - Taiwan, to launch the Smart Tourism Project in Castries.
This initiative allows visitors to navigate their way around the City by scanning QR codes that will provide information on their route. Launched at Constitution Park, the QR Code there provides details on Sir John Compton’s fight for Independence and life.
Other notable monuments in Castries include Bideau’s Place, City Hall and the Minor Basilica.
Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism, Hon. Guibion Ferdinand, says the Ministry will continue improving visitor experiences.
“I am proud to be associated with the Story Map & Smart Tourism Project that was launched earlier this week, supported by the Taiwanese Technical Mission. Let us elevate the visitor experience using technology such as virtual maps, interactive signage and videography while preserving our cultural legacy for generations to come,” he explained.
The Saint Lucia Tourism Authority says the Smart Tourism Project is expected to attract more visitors leading to increased tourism revenue, contributing to the growth and sustainability of the local economy.
Saint Lucia is the Caribbean’s Leading Adventure Tourism, Nature, and Honeymoon Destination and such initiatives enhance the visitor’s overall experience.
The Ministry of Tourism, Investment, Creative Industries, Culture & Information and the TaiwanICDF launched the Story Map and Smart Tourism Project in Castries on May 14, 2024.
