Sunrise Airways To Keep Prices Affordable, Founder Says

Tuesday, May 28

"W

e have competitive rates. But, I want everybody to be mindful of the cost of aviation because it is expensive.

We have witnessed a surge in prices in fuel, and planes, and everything has become expensive. But we are determined to make it as affordable as it can be,” said Sunrise Airways Founder and Chairman Philippe Bayard.

Sunrise Airways’s new flights connect Dominica to Antigua, St. Kitts, and Saint Lucia. The airline's new services will operate 6 days a week (excluding Tuesdays), offering daily flights between Dominica and Antigua, with onward connections to other destinations.

The airline says it is committed to addressing the significant decline in regional travel over the past few years.

Regional travel has suffered as long-time carrier LIAT ceased all its operations in January 2024, leaving travellers with few options.

Aiming to address not only the regional travel crisis but many of the concerns expressed about LIAT, Bayard assures fliers that his airline is customer-oriented.

"We recognised a pressing need for better travel options within the Caribbean. Having started twelve years ago in the northern Caribbean, we are now excited to include Saint Lucia, Antigua, St. Kitts, and Dominica in our itinerary,” he stated.

In the near future, Bayard adds, Sunrise Airways will be increasing its air capacity to better service the region.

We will try to serve as best as possible. At the moment, we have two planes dedicated to the region and we have more coming. Operating in the greater Caribbean means that we have alternatives that can allow to have very quick action if there is a need for more flights.”

Sunrise Airways touched down just about 8:21 a.m.  on Tuesday 28 May, 2024, marking the observance of the inaugural service to Saint Lucia’s George F. L. Charles Airport (SLU).

The Airline’s Chairman, Philippe Bayard; Sebastien Bayard, Executive Director; Sherry Tross, Chairman’s Advisor and Midji Verdol, Marketing Manager were welcomed to the lively sounds of steel pan music.

On the tarmac, Senator the Honourable Guibion Ferdinand, offered welcoming remarks, which followed with the presentation of the Plaque by Mario Reyes, Chairman of the Airlift Committee at the Saint Lucia Tourism Authority.
