Fish Vendors to be Relocated as Government Upgrades Castries Aesthetic

"A

s I speak, we are having a side visit with some of the fisher folk to ensure that they get another venue,” explained Castries Central MP Richard Frederick, as fish vendors are due for a relocation.

The Government has announced its intention to upgrade the look and feel of the City Centre as major development works are in progress at Port Castries.

The construction of the Box Park for vendors, additional booths at Bideu Park, the construction of the Halls of Justice and the construction of a Marriott Hotel at Pointe Seraphine are some of the strategies in place for Castries.

MP Frederick notes the discomfort for pedestrians at the fish vending on the Castries Waterfront, stating that the vendors are not well-suited on the sidewalks.

I'm sure persons would realise that this sporadic fish vending by the market is unsightly. Somebody even took it upon their own to build a hut right there,” he said.

At present, the government has outlined the fisheries complex at Pointe Seraphine for fish vending with Frederick disclosing that site visits are scheduled.

We are going to have a site visit. We are going to go up to the fisheries and to ensure that we build an extension on one of the vending facilities that is already in existence.”
