$1000 Fine or 1-Year Imprisonment for Illegal Entry into Carnival Bands

his year, the laws regulating the conduct of persons during the Parade of the Bands will be in full force.

Of note, persons who illegally enter a carnival band could either face a 1-year prison sentence or a fine of $1000.

This act, which has become notorious in recent years, is prohibited under the country’s Criminal Code under Section 539.

At any public festival a person who—  (2) Any person who— (a) unlawfully enters a band in contravention of subsection (1) after having been forbidden to do so by an authorised person…(c) fails or refuses to leave the band after he or she has been directed to do so by an authorised person, commits an offence, and is liable on summary conviction to a fine of $1,000 or to imprisonment for one year or to both,” section 539 of the Criminal Code reads.

Carnival bands have issued the reminder as the Parade of the Bands is just a few days away - July 15th and 16th.
