RSLPF Thanks Unsung Heroes for Crime Management During Carnival

"T

here was a greater level of synergy between the CPMC, stakeholders, the band leaders and the civil society,” remarked Deputy Police Commissioner Ronald Phillip following the successful closure of the 2024 Lucian Carnival Season.

The RSLPF provided security and traffic controls for the two-day event in the Castries. According to DCP Phillip, stakeholders worked hand-in-hand with law enforcement to ensure crime was under control in the inner city.

Phillip notes that residents of the city’s outskirts were reminded of carnival’s economic importance and that they should cooperate with the efforts of law enforcement.

I know before carnival, we would have spoken to the young men in the inner city area as to the economic importance of carnival, and why their behaviour is important in ensuring that the carnival remains relatively safe,” he explained.

DCP Phillip thanked officers who sacrificed their time as well as the new police recruits who aided in meeting the security demands.

I would like to thank those unsung heroes for that level of impetus, I want to thank you very much. You are human beings who are sacrificing valuable family time. We had the additional 80 recruits who came out in numbers to assist.”

Phillip says the police have already recognised areas needing improvement for next year’s carnival celebrations. An issue of major concern for spectators and motorists is the free flow of traffic.

I can tell you we are already in an advanced stage of discussion in terms of seeing how best next year we can utilise a park-and-ride system to mitigate the effects of the traffic congestion,” he said.

The CPMC has announced that Lucian Carnival 2025 will run from July 1st to 25th 2025.
