New Resort Deal to Employ Hundreds of Saint Lucians

"R

epresentatives from the Apple Leisure Group are rebranding and reconstructing the “St. James Club” to the new “Secrets St. Lucia Resort and Spa”.

The company has operated in Saint Lucia for the past thirty years, and presently owns the “Zoetry Marigot Bay St. Lucia”. The Prime Minister welcomes this development but asks the management to ensure the people of Saint Lucia are treated with dignity and respect.

Tourism Minister, Hon. Dr. Ernest Hilaire also announced the ongoing hotel projects on-island. He says this will increase the development of the sector and the economy. “The Galaxy Hotel in Cannells is well on its way, and the Cas En Bas Beach Hotel is well on its way. The Marriott at Pointe Seraphine is also on its way. We’ve finally relocated the Sabwisha residents. There are a couple of developments that will be on the way.”

This year, Hilaire says, Ministry officials are preparing for a successful and bustling cruise season. Apart from the GPH Development, he notes, other measures need to be put in place to ensure the comfort of cruise passengers. “This is going to be our best cruise season on record. So it’s a lot of pressure. A significant number of our visitors want to spend a day on the beach. They want recreational facilities on beaches. So if you go to Vigie Beach and Reduit beach, it’s very crowded. We want to create options. We also need to upgrade the facilities at the beaches, especially toilet facilities. We also need to enhance security on the beaches. We’ll also start transitioning into different management of the ports.”

Hilaire says the government must also work towards motivating investors to come to Saint Lucia. “[The developments have] increased investor confidence in the country. [The government] also has to work to make investors know that we care.

An astounding two hundred Saint Lucians will be employed during the construction of Secrets Resort and Spa, and over three hundred will be employed once the resort is open for business. When completed by the end of summer 2024, the resort will feature 351 luxurious rooms.
