The Government of Saint Lucia Congratulates Julien Alfred and Commends the Saint Lucia Olympic Team

he Government and people of Saint Lucia are delighted by Julien Alfred’s outstanding achievements at the Paris Olympics.

We extend congratulations to her for winning both a gold and a silver medal, which have solidified her position in Saint Lucian history.

Julien’s exceptional performance in the 100 meter event at the 2024 Summer Olympics, where she clinched the gold medal and set a new national record of 10.72 seconds in the final, is a testimony to her resilience, commitment and skill. Her gold medal signifies Saint Lucia's first-ever Olympic medal, a historic feat that has elevated our nation's standing in the world of athletics.

In the Women's 200 meters at the 2024 Summer Olympics, Alfred secured a silver medal, further-  highlighting her status as one of the most formidable athletes on the global stage. These victories have not only instilled immense pride in our nation but have also filled the hearts of every Saint Lucian with joy.

Prime Minister Hon. Philip J. Pierre acknowledges that Julien Alfred’s remarkable achievements at the Paris Olympics have brought significant international attention to Saint Lucia. This attention has the potential to enhance our global profile, providing valuable exposure and potential benefits for tourism and related sectors. 

Beyond her medals, Julien has become a source of hope and inspiration for young athletes throughout Saint Lucia.

In addition to celebrating Julien Alfred’s remarkable accomplishments, the Government of Saint Lucia expresses deep appreciation to the other members of the Saint Lucia team namely Michael Joseph, Luc Chevrier and Jayhan Odlum- Smith. Your determination and perseverance are greatly valued, and we encourage you to continue striving for greatness. Together, we will continue to proudly represent Saint Lucia on the world stage.

In 2023, the Government allocated some $250,000 to ensure the fulltime training of Ms. Alfred along with a diplomatic passport for ease of travel. Most recently, the government has secured $80 million to refurbish sporting facilities island wide. The George Odlum Stadium is also expected to be rehabilitated following the completion of the St. Jude Hospital which is housed at the stadium.
