ommencing on August 29th, the 2024 Caribbean Premier League may be Saint Lucia’s chance to finally capture the cup.

With the exception of the newly-formed Antigua and Barbuda Falcons, Saint Lucia is the only country among competing countries to not yet win.

Saint Lucia Kings’ Head Coach, local cricket star Daren Sammy, says he is entering this year’s matches with faith and determination.

Every year we keep saying “this is the year” and I said to the guys this year, I'm not saying that. I'm just gonna let it take its course but so far with what's happening in Saint Lucia, I'm feeling really good,” he explained.

Since being taken over by another manager, the Saint Lucia Kings have shown tremendous improvement, Sammy says. The career cricketer explained that Saint Lucia has steadily climbed the ranks and has proven to be a top contender.

They've allowed me to shape the team. Since Kings took over, I think there's been a massive shift in where Saint Lucia, always at the bottom, now finishing in the top four every year where I think 2020 and 2021 we were losing finals,” he said.

Sammy notes that with the right squad, a 2024 victory could be a reality.

We’ve been plagued a few years because of guys who were originally selected that have not been able to come through, but hopefully this year with the recruitment that we have, all hands would be on deck and it would give us a real test of putting the right 11 out.”

Four CPL matches will be held in Saint Lucia on September 7th, 10th, 12th and 15th.
