The tragic incident occurred around 10:06 p.m., prompting an emergency response from the Choiseul Police Station and the Saint Lucia Fire Service.
According to preliminary investigations by police, the accident involved two motor vehicles. Both drivers sustained injuries and were transported via ambulance to the St. Jude Hospital for treatment. Sadly, one of the victims, identified as Auguste, later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by a medical practitioner.
La Fargue resident John Preville, who lives near the scene, recounted the harrowing moment: “I was home and I heard a sound like an accident. I heard a double sound, I thought something went wrong. When I heard the music cool out, I heard people screaming. I had a mind that something happened... I realized it was an accident, a serious accident.”
Press Officer of the Saint Lucia Fire Service, Sherise John, confirmed that two adult males were involved in the crash.
“An assessment of one individual revealed facial trauma and injuries to his lower extremities, whilst the other complained of bodily pain,” she stated.
Both victims received initial treatment on-site before being transported to the hospital for further medical attention.
The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force has indicated that a post-mortem examination will be conducted at a later date to confirm the exact cause of death. In the meantime, police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
Authorities are once again urging motorists to exercise caution on the roads. “We advise all road users to comply with the laws that regulate vehicle operations and road usage,” the police noted in a statement.
