n July 31st, 2023, Housing Minister Hon. Richard Frederick announced the CDC buildings earmarked for demolition would be floored by the end of August 2023.

However, Frederick says, due to circumstances beyond his control, that has not been done. Addressing his constituents, Frederick provided a new date for the demolition of the buildings.

“There is one person living in Block X. I can guarantee you that by month-end, or before the end of September, Block X should be going down,” he disclosed.

Prior to this announcement, the Housing Minister revealed that one issue stood in the way of the building’s demolition, and that is the issue of residents still living in the deteriorating building.

“Of the sixteen families that were in occupation of Block X, we are now reduced to only two families. We are working assiduously to ensure that we get alternative accommodations for them”, the Minister had said in July 2023.

Frederick continues to urge residents of the CDC to be responsible for their safety. Following the circulation of viral videos depicting the deterioration of the buildings, residents of the CDCs came under heavy scrutiny for remaining to live under such conditions. Since the announcement of the demolition, all but one resident has been successfully relocated to better living conditions.
