The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force, in collaboration with the Allied Services Co-operative Credit Union, convened its 51st Annual General Meeting on Wednesday.

The gathering brought together credit union members, law enforcement personnel, and financial experts to assess the organisation’s progress and chart a course for long-term financial sustainability and growth.

President of the Police and Allied Services Credit Union, Milton Antoine, acknowledged the ongoing economic challenges but emphasised the importance of unity and strategic planning.

"We continue to face challenges which call for us to continue to unite, show resilience, and plan for a better financial future for our members," he stated.

He noted that despite obstacles, the credit union remains strong and could perform even better if members committed to increased savings. "I can certainly say to you that our credit union is doing well, and if we just save a little more, we can do much, much better."

Antoine also reminded attendees of the founding principles of the credit union movement, cautioning against losing sight of its core values:

Sometimes we in the credit union movement seem to forget the core principles and the philosophy of credit unions…At least 80 per cent of millionaires are self-made. That is, they started with nothing but ambition and energy, the same way most of us start.

Financial Regulator at the Financial Regulatory Authority, Shelanco Frederick, addressed the audience and commended the credit union for its efforts. He encouraged members to view the AGM as a moment for reflection and renewed ambition.

Today’s Annual General Meeting provides a valuable opportunity to reflect on your past achievements, assess your current standing, and re-energise your collective resolve to pursue excellence,” he said.

Frederick outlined several areas for continued development, including capital strengthening, improved operational efficiency, and enhanced risk management systems.
