aint Lucia is reeling from a violent weekend that claimed three lives, including a recent secondary school graduate.

Police and emergency officials have confirmed that the island recorded three separate homicides between June 27 and June 30, sparking renewed concerns about public safety and youth vulnerability.

The first victim was 36-year-old Jimmy Charles of Richfond, Dennery, who was fatally shot by an unknown assailant around 9:27 p.m. on Friday, June 27. His death has left family members devastated, particularly his mother-in-law, Janatta John.

I know out there they did not like him, but I love him. I told him that before he died, I loved him more than I love my daughter. Because only love he was showing me,” she said.

John described a special morning ritual the two shared: “Every morning I wake up at five o’clock to take my exercise. He would come by the window and laugh, ‘Mama, you there exercising.’ Every morning, I look at that window to see if he’s coming.

Just days later, on the night of June 30, 18-year-old Jeannic Jn. Phillip was gunned down in New Village, Castries. The young man had graduated from the Bocage Secondary School just five days earlier. Family members say the shooting was unprovoked and senseless.

He was happy for himself. He was overjoyed with all his certificates and medals,” said his aunt, who spoke anonymously. “Right now, his mother is in a mess. She cannot handle it. So we’re just here to support her.”

A family friend, whose son was close to Jn. Phillip also voiced deep concern. “This young boy didn’t do anything to deserve that. He was just there chilling with his friends, always on his phone watching entertainment. And now I fear my son or his friends could be next.”
