SLP Poised for 17-0 Victory in Coming Elections, Pierre Says

Thursday, Jul 10

"T

his election, we have to win all 17 seats,” charged Prime Minister and Political Leader of the Saint Lucia Labour Party, Philip J. Pierre on the night of July 8th.

This declaration was made by Pierre during a Dennery North town hall meeting at Palm Valley, Dennery, who said that through a legitimate exercise of democracy, the SLP will be reelected into office without contest.

We need to show that democracy is working. We need to show that the will of the people is working. And this election, we have to win all 17 seats. No seat shall be left behind,” declared Pierre.

The SLP won the last general election with a majority of 13 seats and a coalition government was formed with independent candidates Stephenson King of Castries North and Richard Frederick of Castries Central. The opposition UWP was left with two seats; a defeat nearly as politically crippling as the 1997 defeat which left them with a mere one seat in the Lower House.

That night, Pierre confirmed the SLP’s commitment to contest the next general election alongside the independent candidates.

So when the time comes, when the time comes, and we name our 17 candidates, you will see what a team of commitment, you'll see what a team of experience, and we will join hands with the former prime minister, the honourable Stephenson King, and we'll join hands with the parliamentary representative for Castries Central, and together we will win all 17 seats at the next election.”

PM Pierre also profited the opportunity to commend Dennery North MP, Shawn Edward for his work both as an MP and Minister: “I was in charge of CDEMA and because of prime ministerial duties, I allowed Shawn to handle all the matters and said and allowed Shawn to go to to represent Saint Lucia at the highest level and I was in Belize last week and everyone including the prime minister of Belize was saying to me what an outstanding minister Shawn Edward is.

The next general election is constitutionally due no later than October 2026.
