Edward Blasts UWP for “Character Assassination” Politics

Friday, Aug 15

"I

t is personal. It’s about character assassination. It is not rooted in sound policy initiatives,” remarked Dennery North MP Shawn Edward during a sit-down interview with Annou Kozé.

He sharply criticised the opposition United Workers Party (UWP), accusing it of engaging in a brand of politics he describes as “extremely nasty” and devoid of substantive policy proposals.

Edward claimed that the opposition’s campaign tactics have relied heavily on personal attacks rather than constructive debate.

While acknowledging that political differences are inevitable, Edward argued that the opposition’s approach represents a dangerous shift in political discourse.

He recalled that when his party was in opposition, it participated in discussions on crime “as a responsible opposition,” understanding that crime should never be politicised.

Edward also criticised the UWP for failing to present clear policy alternatives, saying that instead of analysing government initiatives and offering solutions, the party has resorted to targeting individuals’ reputations.

Nowadays, it’s finger-pointing, it’s a blame game. They go after you. They go after your family. They go after your name, your reputation,” he said.

Despite the attacks, Edward insisted that he remains undeterred.

I am fortified in my stance as a minister of government, as a parliamentary representative, and I know the worth of Shawn Edward. No amount of lies, no amount of posts on Facebook can derail me. I am laser-focused,” he declared.
