Minister for Tourism, Dr. Ernest Hilaire, announced on October 5th, 2025, during the official opening of the new cruise season, as the island welcomed the Celebrity Reflection, the first vessel to dock for the season.
“Today is more than the arrival of the first ship; it is a celebration of our resilience, our innovation, and our unwavering commitment to excellence in the tourism sector.”
The Minister attributed the sector’s continued success to strategic planning, targeted investment, and strong partnerships across the tourism industry.
“This success is no coincidence; it is the result of continuous investment and the collective effort of countless individuals, from taxi drivers and tour guides to craft vendors, port workers, hospitality professionals, and dedicated agencies. Most importantly, it is our communities that form the backbone of this industry.”
Dr. Hilaire noted that Royal Caribbean Cruise Line Corporation continues to play a leading role, accounting for 18 percent of all projected arrivals this season. More than 400 cruise calls are already scheduled, with increasing interest from some of the world’s most prestigious cruise lines.
Looking ahead, Dr Hilaire, who also serves as the island’s Minister for Investment, outlined several key developments that reflect the government’s commitment to inclusive and sustainable tourism growth. These include new facilities at Anchorage and the Morne Lay-by in Castries, and the construction of a beach park in Gros Islet designed for both visitors and locals to enjoy safe, vibrant recreation spaces.
One of the most anticipated projects is the National Underwater Sculpture Park, slated to open in January 2026.
The 300-foot underwater exhibit will celebrate Saint Lucia’s culture, heritage, and marine biodiversity while protecting the island’s fragile marine environment.
Other ongoing developments touted by the Minister include the redevelopment of port facilities in Castries and Soufrière in collaboration with Saint Lucia Cruise Ports, initiatives aimed at elevating the visitor experience and creating new economic opportunities for surrounding communities.
“Our goal is to showcase not just our beaches, but our villages, cuisine, arts, and people,” Dr. Hilaire emphasized. “The soul of Saint Lucia is found in its culture and communities.”
He extended gratitude to cruise line partners for their trust, to local communities for their hospitality, and to all Saint Lucians for their continued dedication. “As we embark on this season of record arrivals and transformative investments,” he said, “let us remain focused on our shared direction, forward. Forward toward excellence, toward inclusiveness, toward a Saint Lucia that shines brighter with each sunrise.”
