Speaking ahead of the official launch of the Government’s “Book of Achievements” on Sunday, November 9th, at The University of the People, Castries Market Steps, Dr. Hilaire said the event will publicly document the accomplishments of the Pierre Administration since taking office in July 2021, at the height of the COVID-19 crisis.
“What we've achieved in the various sectors, I’m looking forward to Sunday because we have so much to boast about,” Dr. Hilaire stated. “We promised to put people first, and I think we have largely achieved that. From where we took Saint Lucia during COVID in 2021 to where we are now, four consecutive years of economic growth, unemployment at one of the lowest levels ever, record investment, and tourism arrivals at their highest, there’s truly a lot to be proud of.”
Dr. Hilaire emphasized that the Book of Achievements will give Saint Lucians the opportunity to assess the government’s performance based on tangible results.
“We’ll be very proud on Sunday to present to the people of Saint Lucia all that we’ve achieved. As the campaign unfolds, the people will be able to judge us on what we said we would deliver, and what we actually delivered. When the time comes to choose, they’ll judge us against a history of performance, and that, to me, is excellent.”
Dr. Hilaire pointed to education as one of the clearest examples of the administration’s people-centered approach.
“We’ve provided scholarships for our young people, paid school fees for parents who simply couldn’t afford them, and covered CXC exam fees for students who would otherwise be unable to sit all their subjects. Imagine spending five years in secondary school only to be told your parents can’t afford your exam fees, we’ve done away with that.”
He added that the laptop program has been reinstated, repairs to school infrastructure are ongoing across the island, and teachers are now receiving direct financial support to purchase classroom supplies, a responsibility many previously shouldered out of pocket.
“For years, teachers complained about not receiving a salary in August,” Hilaire noted. “Now, every teacher is paid that month. It’s about dignity, respect, and fairness.”
Dr. Hilaire also highlighted strides in the health sector, citing progress on the long-awaited completion of St. Jude Hospital and the rollout of the Universal Health Care Program, which expands access to essential medical services for all Saint Lucians.
“We promised to deliver St. Jude, and very shortly, we will begin its commissioning,” he affirmed. “We’ve also started implementing Universal Health Care, expanding the basket of services available to every Saint Lucian.”
In agriculture, the Deputy Prime Minister noted increased government support for farmers through subsidies and input assistance.
“Farmers no longer have to worry about the cost of fertilizer or basic inputs, the government is supporting them directly. There’s so much to boast about in agriculture,” he said.
On tourism, Dr. Hilaire touted record-breaking arrivals, new investments, and the successful introduction of the Community Tourism Programme, which ensures more Saint Lucians benefit directly from the industry’s growth.
Notably, the Community Tourism Program has been recommended for other islands to adopt at the Caribbean Week and Marketplace Tourism forums held earlier this year in Antigua and New York.
The choice of the Castries Market Steps for Sunday’s event was deliberate. Dr. Hilaire said it represents the Labour Party’s deep connection to the people, a venue adopted since the inception of the Labour Party.
“That’s where the people come to listen and engage, the market is our spiritual home,” he explained. “It’s where ordinary working-class Saint Lucians, small artisans, and traders gather. There’s so much about that space that speaks to our mission as a Labour Party. It’s the perfect place to say to the people of Saint Lucia: we have delivered to you, this is what we’ve done.”
Dr. Hilaire’s message was clear: the Pierre Administration has delivered on its promises, and the government’s record will speak for itself.
“We said we would put people first, and that’s exactly what we’ve done.”
