The islandwide exercise is intended to gather information on labour conditions and earnings and strengthen the Department's understanding of the country's labour environment.

The survey comes as Saint Lucia is also undertaking a wider review of its Labour Act, placing increased attention on working conditions, employment protections and the changing nature of the country's workforce.

The Department of Labour, Co-operatives and Consumer Affairs is encouraging households, employers and other stakeholders to cooperate with authorised enumerators.

Members of the public are also being advised to verify the identity of anyone approaching them to conduct the survey. According to the Department, all authorised enumerators must present a valid Data Point Solutions Inc. identification card while carrying out the exercise.

The Department says successful completion of the survey depends on participation from stakeholders across the country.

Information collected is expected to improve the Department's understanding of labour conditions and earnings and support its ongoing work in the labour sector.

The exercise could ultimately provide important evidence for future discussions surrounding employment policy and working conditions in Saint Lucia.

Officials are therefore asking members of the public and businesses to cooperate with enumerators while also checking the required identification before providing information.
