ourism Minister, Honourable Dr. Ernest Hialire responds to rumours that the United Kingdom will impose VISA requirements on citizens of Saint Lucia. During his address on Monday, July 24th, Dr Hilaire says these rumours have not yet been substantiated by the UK Government.

“[The UK Government] never mentioned Saint Lucia, never mentioned Saint Kitts, never mentioned Antigua, never mentioned Grenada”, the Tourism Minister noted.

The rumours originated from an unverified source, alleging that all Caribbean islands offering the Citizenship by Investment Programme will soon be assailed by VISA requirements by the UK Home Office. However, the UK Home Office has not issued a statement confirming such rumours.  The rumours began circulation after the UK Home Office imposed VISA restrictions on the Commonwealth of Dominica. In a written statement made by Home Secretary Suella Braverman, Dominica was criticised for its CBI scheme.

“Careful consideration of Dominica’s of a citizenship by investment scheme has shown clear and evident abuse of the scheme, including the granting of citizenship to individuals known to pose a risk to the UK.”, Braverman wrote in a statement.

Hilaire adds that the Saint Lucia Government remains in contact with its British counterparts, ensuring that policies and regulations are followed with regard to the island’s CIP.

“As far as we know, and we are in constant dialogue with all our international partners, there are no issues in our CIP that need addressing now, he clarified. “Our CIP is reputed to have one of the best if not the best due diligence process”.

Hilaire added that the government will continue strengthening the due diligence of its CIP to cater to international standards.
