RIME MINISTER’S OFFICE - Prime Minister Honourable Philip J Pierre says his administration will continue meeting the demands of public servants. However, the Prime Minister says, public servants need to exercise patience. This statement follows Correctional Officers expressing their dissatisfaction with current working conditions. The Prime Minister says he shares the officers’ concerns, and has embarked on resolving them.

I have met with the officers of that institution and I expressed my gratitude - and I also expressed my concern”, Honourable Pierre told members of the press. “For example, the skyline, the fencing of the property needs repairs. They’ve complained about protective gear”.

The protective gear and other equipment have been ordered, according to the Prime Minister.

“We ordered not only bullet-proof vests but vests [to withstand] stabbings. We’ve ordered guns and ammunition. In fact, we’ve actually paid for [the guns] already.” Due to shipping delays, the Prime Minister complained, the shipments are taking much longer to arrive than anticipated. “That shipment should be here by the end of August”.

Pierre also added that other equipment and improvements to working conditions have been made since the Government’s last meeting with the Correctional Officers Welfare Association in April 2023.

“The skills allowance that was due to the officers that haven’t been paid for ages - we paid. There are new mattresses and a new stove.”, Pierre said.

The Prime Minister says he is grateful for the hard work of the Correctional Officers during such difficult circumstances.
