At this forum, Saint Lucia signed a loan agreement with the Bank for the provision of $13.5 million for the renovation of schools.
Prime Minister Pierre affirmed Saint Lucia’s commitment to fostering stronger relations with the African continent, collaborating on matters of trade, investment and climate resilience.
“In the area of healthcare and well-being, our regions have much to gain from joint medical research and sharing best practices in public health management…addressing the pressing challenge of climate change and advocating for environmental sustainability is at the forefront of our agenda…enhancing our infrastructure and connectivity through improved transportation links and technological innovation also remains a priority,” Pierre said in his statement to the forum. Pierre underscored the importance of economic empowerment which would place a priority on youth and women.
The Prime Minister adds that a focus will be placed on cultural exchanges between Africa and the region. “Saint Lucia remains committed to fostering cultural and educational exchanges, aiming to bridge our heritage and histories, while building solid partnerships between our educational institutions for knowledge transfer and collaborative research,” he. To that end, Pierre disclosed, a syllabus is being prepared by the Ministry of Education which will guide instruction of African history.
As the Caribbean and Africa look ahead, the leaders expressed a collective vision for a future where both regions are connected through direct air and sea links, facilitating travel, cultural exchange, and economic cooperation. The message echoed in the forum is clear: the journey ahead is filled with opportunity and potential, and by working together, the continent of Africa and the Caribbean can build a future that is bright, prosperous, and interconnected.
