The Department of Education, Innovation, and Vocational Training is pleased to announce the activation of the Education Trust Fund, a facility aimed at ensuring access to quality education at all levels of the education system. This marks another milestone in the Department’s ongoing commitment to empower the nation’s most valuable resource – its people.
Annually, a minimum of ten students will receive financial assistance from the Fund. Education institutions also stand to benefit as the fund will support projects that align with the Department’s strategic vision.
Through this venture, the Department of Education continues to promote its Educate Saint Lucia initiative, which emphasizes creating opportunities, awareness, and access to education. Permanent Secretary Michelle Charles sees the activation of the fund as yet another avenue for ensuring access to education and ensuring student success.
“For the first time ever, educational institutions can tap into local resources for the promotion of innovative projects that will enhance instruction and the overall educational experience,” Ms. Charles noted.
The Education Trust Fund was established by Chapter 18.04 of the Laws of Saint Lucia (Act 3 of 1998). The Board charged with managing the affairs of the Fund is Chaired by Dr. Tanya Beaubrun, ably assisted by Permanent Secretary, Michelle Charles, Adey Paul of the National Principals Association; Chantal Peter of the Saint Lucia Teacher’s Union; and Katie St. Martin of the National Youth Council.
